Discussing Data Mining, Statistics Study Program of Hamzanwadi University Holds Public Lecture

SELONG - The Statistics Study Program at Hamzanwadi University held a public lecture themed "Data Mining". This activity was held as an effort to increase students' insight regarding the importance of using data mining in data processing in various fields, from business to scientific research.

"Data mining is a process that allows us to explore and analyze big data with the aim of finding patterns, relationships, and valuable information hidden in it," said Dean of FMIPA Dr. H. Edy Waluyo, Friday (07/21/2023).

Participants in the public lecture were introduced to the basic concepts of data mining, including data analysis techniques, algorithms commonly used in data mining, and effective approaches to overcome challenges in processing big data.

"In addition, participants will also be invited to understand how data mining is one of the important pillars in the ongoing era of digital transformation," he said.

This event also provides an opportunity for students to interact directly with speakers, ask questions about data mining topics that interest them, and expand their knowledge network in the world of data science and data analysis.

By holding this public lecture, the Statistics Study Program of Hamzanwadi University hopes to create a generation of students who are more skilled in processing data and utilizing the potential of data mining to achieve higher goals in the development of science and public welfare.

Statistics Study Program Coordinator Muhammad Ghazali, M.Pd emphasized that the public lecture aims to increase students' insight related to the use of data mining in data processing. Data mining has quite a lot of functions and benefits that can be obtained by implementing data mining.

"In general, data mining functions are divided into two parts. Namely descriptive and predictive, specifically for data mining has other functions such as association, classification, clustering, forecasting and sequencing," he added.

The activity which took the theme "Data mining" was delivered by Professor of Statistics IPB Prof. Dr. Ir. Khairil Anwar Notodiputro, MS began with a sharing session related to the speaker's experience related to the world of statistics today.

Then continued with the core material on the use of data mining in overcoming problems in data processing, especially big data. Prof. Khairil Anwar said that data mining is very useful for examining and processing large data to find new and useful patterns.

After the presentation of the material by the resource person, there was a question and answer activity guided by the moderator. In this activity, students were very enthusiastic in asking questions to the speaker. The activity ended with a photo session with participants and the speaker.
