General English 2022, Efforts to Create a Globally Competitive Campus

The closing of the 2022 General English (GE) Program was held at the Hamzanwadi University Sports Hall on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Attended by the vice chancellor, dean, and study program coordinators, the closing of GE went smoothly and lively according to plan. With this closing, the 2022 GE program has officially ended. Previously, General English had been implemented for one month, from August 1 to August 30, 2022. This program is a program for new students to learn English facilitated by the Hamzanwadi University Language Center. The aim is to introduce English as well as motivate students to continue learning English in the future. The hard work of the Language Center has paid off. As evidenced by the survey that has been conducted, on average new students are satisfied with the implementation of this GE program. The results can also be seen from student representatives who were able to convey their impressions and messages using English during the closing ceremony. I saw that they had been studying for a month. Today using English in front of many people and in front of campus officials using English that can be said with a neat grammar and their vocabulary is also good. Although I can't generalize because it's only a small representative of the large population, said Andri Suherman, MA, M.Ed., TESOL, one of the assessor teams for the 2022 GE Program. Although it has been implemented well, the Language Center Team continues to develop learning methods and modules so that next year's GE implementation can be even better. This month-long intensive program not only makes an impression on new students but also on tutors and the assessor team and the Hamzanwadi University Language Center Staff. During this month, it certainly takes a lot of time and energy, but the team from the Language Center continues to run it as best they can. This is all an effort to achieve the vision of this campus, as conveyed by Andri, "I am sure that the fatigue can produce results and that is for the sake of the program to support the needs of our campus and also for the vision of a globally competitive campus. The feeling of tiredness just disappeared. In addition, the Head of the Language Center Unit, Hamzani Wathoni, M. Ed., added, "In addition to English as one of the important skills to realize the vision and mission of a globally competitive campus, it is also an important instrument to realize the ideals of its founders, namely to expand the struggle to all corners of the world." In addition, Andri also expressed his gratitude to all parties who have helped make this GE program a success so that it can run smoothly until the end. He also did not forget to thank the media team who covered this activity. "Thank you for covering this General English activity, hopefully it can be the first step in introducing the Language Center with its programs such as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC Training to the community, both on campus and off campus, so that the reach of the Language Center program is wider in the future," he concluded.
