Greening Rinjani, Saving the Earth: Hamzanwadi's Real Action Environmental Engineering Plants 1,500 Trees

East Lombok – In order to commemorate World Environment Day which falls on June 5, the Environmental Engineering Study Program of Hamzanwadi University carried out real action through Community Service (PKM) activities in the form of planting trees in Joben Hamlet, Pesanggrahan Village, Montong Gading District, precisely in the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) area.

Carrying the theme "Joben Betaletan, Joben Lestari", this activity lasted for two days, namely on Saturday (31/5) and Tuesday (3/6). This action is a form of real contribution in supporting the sustainability of forest and spring ecosystems, as well as responding to the increasingly worrying climate crisis.

In addition, this activity is also a form of full support from the Environmental Engineering Study Program for the sustainability of the Climate Village Program (Proklim), as a form of commitment to building community resilience in facing climate change. This commitment is in line with the message of the Minister of Environment and Forestry when giving an award to Hamzanwadi University at the 2024 LIKE 2 Festival in Jakarta.

This collaborative action involved many parties, including:

- Joben Lestari Proklim Group

- TNGR Center

- BPDLH

- Ministry of Environment and Forestry

- Faculty of Forestry, University of Mataram

- Environmental Engineering Study Program, University of Hamzanwadi

The opening ceremony was attended by a number of important figures and institutions, such as:

- Regional Secretary of East Lombok Regency

- Acting Head of the NTB Provincial Environmental Service

- Representatives of BTNGR and DLH of East Lombok Regency

- Montong Gading Police Chief and Babinsa

- Religious figures, NGOs, Manggala Agni, and Pusdal Bali Nusra

- Directors of Bank NTB Syariah

- Students, school children, farmers and the surrounding community

On the first day, 300 trees were successfully planted. This activity was also combined with the presentation of awards to a number of community figures who have contributed to maintaining and preserving the TNGR area, including local farmers and plantation owners. The first day's activities were closed with the inauguration of the Proklim Mart by the Regional Secretary of East Lombok Regency.

While on the second day, the activities continued with the planting of 1,200 trees, so that the total number of trees successfully planted in the two days reached 1,500 trees. Around 65 students and lecturers of the Environmental Engineering Study Program were directly involved in this activity.

As part of the series of activities, students also received conservation education from the TNGR Center, which emphasized the importance of protecting forests for the sustainability of living things today and future generations. This education was reinforced with a local tagline full of meaning:

"Gawah tilah masyarakat molah, aiq limpah selapuk cigah"
(The rice fields are maintained by the awareness of the community, water is abundant for all life.)

With the spirit of collaboration and concern for the environment, this activity is expected to be an inspiration for campuses and the wider community to continue to contribute to preserving nature.
