As a Work Unit that oversees activities related to language, the Hamzanwadi University Language Center held a public lecture on translators followed by the signing of an MoU with the Central HPI (Indonesian Translators Association) at the Hj. Sitti Rauhun Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Auditorium.

Before giving a public lecture, the two parties agreed to sign an MoU which would later become the umbrella for subsequent activities. One of the several important points agreed upon included translation assistance for novice translators, translation workshops and legality which of course would strengthen the role of the campus and HPI institutions in contributing to society, especially in the field of language.

Furthermore, in the public lecture which was attended by 300 students from various faculties, the speaker, Mrs. Anna Wiksmadhara, one of the central HPI officials, explained several things related to the opportunities and challenges of translation in the current digital era. One of the interesting questions discussed in this public lecture refers to who can become a translator or interpreter? Is it only those who have a language major or others? Mrs. Anna, a translation practitioner who has now been doing translation activities for more than 30 years, explained that this profession is not only intended for those who intensively study languages, but all groups are very likely to become translators, only they need to learn translation techniques that are of course in accordance with legal and recognized translation rules or systems.

Furthermore, amidst the circulation of e-books and the advancement of technology such as AI as a topic of discussion in this activity, she explained that current technological advances are not a challenge for translators, but are even a complement that will certainly support better translation results. We cannot rely on translations carried out by digital machines today because this tool only facilitates language translation but sometimes cannot bring readers closer to the original context, said the holder of the TSN HPI (National Certification Test) Certificate for translators in the Legal and General Fields.
