Director of the Center for Cooperation and Public Relations (PKH) of Hamzanwadi University, Dr. Muhammad Halqi said that the meeting with the Head of BMKG Region I was to strengthen the relationship between BMKG and universities because universities do not only focus on education and student learning or theory alone.
"Universities are known as the Tridharma of Higher Education which includes education, research and community service. So each of them goes hand in hand. Therefore, currently we together with 3 study program coordinators (korprodi) are building communication for cooperation with BMKG Region I," said Halqi after his meeting with BMKG Mataram, Tuesday (11/15/2020).
Three study program coordinators who attended the meeting were Dr. Armin Subhani, M.Pd from the Geography Education Study Program, Agus Muliadi, M.Si from the Environmental Engineering Study Program, and Safiruddin, M.Pd from the Physics Education Study Program at Hamzanwadi University.
"The three study programs were chosen because they are relevant to the BMKG program or field that manages the current natural situation and conditions that are often hit by disasters. One of BMKG's tasks is to provide MKG Information services, especially those related to disasters according to the mandate of Law no. 31 of 2009. Meanwhile, for other study programs, we have established cooperation with institutions according to the study program," said Halqi.
Head of the Mataram Geophysics Station Ardhianto Septiadhi said that the BMKG cooperation is likely to be in the field of research by lecturers and students in the form of guest lectures that will be adjusted to relevant courses, and the Climate Field School (SLI).
This SLI is a community education program carried out by BMKG in order to provide an understanding to the community about climate developments and climatology terms that are still unfamiliar. SLI is one form of BMKG support for the agricultural sector with the aim of increasing farmers' insight into BMKG's climate and weather information and using the information for community and agricultural activities.
According to him, this SLI has a special appeal for the interests of community service for students and lecturers. This SLI is usually carried out directly by the BMKG team going down to the community, in the future students and lecturers who have the ability to play an active role in educating the community about climate. "Maybe the pattern will be an SLI workshop for students and lecturers, then going down to the community," he concluded.
