Migrant Care Goes to Campus, Reminds Hamzanwadi University Students of the Dangers of Human Trafficking
Pancor - Hamzanwadi University received a visit from Migrant Care at the Migrant Care Goes to Campus event on Monday (28/4) which took place at the Hamzanwadi University Hall. Through this event, the Director of Migrant Care, Wahyu Susilo explained to the students who attended about the importance of understanding issues regarding migration, especially those concerning the rights of migrant workers.
In addition, Wahyu also discussed the issue of human trafficking which is currently going viral again with one example of a case of human trafficking in Cambodia. "The (human trafficking) cases in Cambodia often occur due to the lack of access to clear information about the jobs available there," he said. The case not only targets workers, but also students.
In another case, according to data from 2023, it was revealed that more than 1,000 students from 41 universities in Indonesia were victims of labor exploitation from the feriejob program in Germany. Students are employed illegally with the lure of an internship program.
Vice Chancellor I, Dr. Abdullah Muzakkar, M.Sc., welcomed the socialization event. "Through this socialization, we can get updated information about crime patterns that occur, especially in the context of migration," he said. He also hopes that students can spread the information obtained at the event to prevent human trafficking cases from happening to those closest to them.
