Resilience for Disaster Mitigation in Schools, LPPM UNY Collaborates with LPD Hamzanwadi University

Resilience is an individual's ability to rise in the face of and overcome risky and stressful situations through maintaining existing competencies and positive and flexible adaptation to changes from stressful experiences. so that an activity was held "Dissemination of Research Results and Resilience Training for Disaster Mitigation in Schools". The implementation of this activity was carried out by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Yogyakarta State University in collaboration with the Professional and Training Institute (LPD) of Hamzanwadi University. This activity was carried out from Monday, October 18, 2021 to Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in the Meeting Room of the Hamzanwadi University Rectorate with participants consisting of Lecturers, Teachers, Disaster Volunteers from various regions on the island of Lombok.

The Head of the East Lombok Education and Culture Office, represented by the Head of Elementary School Resources Hadi Sayuri, said that the resilience program for disaster mitigation in schools is a must and has begun to be implemented in schools. The government strongly supports activities that can develop the abilities and competencies of teachers, especially in disaster mitigation in the regions.

Head of LPD Hamzanwadi University, Dr. Aswasulasikin, M.Pd This Dissemination Activity is the most important part in preparing schools to be resilient to disasters, both natural disasters and non-natural disasters, this is because schools have a big role in disaster mitigation. Aswasulasikin also explained that this activity is expected to make teachers and lecturers as educators more proactive and responsive to student resilience in particular and schools in general to natural disasters. This activity is carried out to foster a culture of disaster response based on local wisdom.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor I of Hamzanwadi University, Dr. H. Khirjan Nahdi explained that in the context of planning, NTB is a disaster-prone area for both natural and non-natural disasters, so good and structured disaster mitigation planning is needed. In addition, Khirjan Nahdi also explained that disasters are not only floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, but droughts are also disasters that must be prepared for how to mitigate them. Khirjan Nahdi also expressed his gratitude to all parties, especially LPPM UNY for their trust in implementing the research and their cooperation in making the research activities a success.

Prof. Dr. Siti Irene Astuti Dwiningrum as the head of the Resilience Research Team for Disaster Mitigation in Schools and also representing LPPM UNY explained that the development of a local wisdom-based School resilience policy for disaster mitigation is a response to the Indonesian government's policy which is currently developing a program to "build a culture of disaster awareness". This program is very important because it provides readiness to students who are resilient and in harmony with disasters. This training is an initiation for the Lombok community on how the community can become resilient in facing disasters and any problems. Be a resilient person and a resilient school for a community that is responsive and ready in disaster mitigation.
