The opening of General English 2022 Hamzanwadi University 2022 was held on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Hj. Sitti Rauhun Auditorium. This event was attended by the Chairperson of YPH PPD NWDI, H. M. Djamaluddin, B.E., M.Kom who in his speech emphasized the importance of practice in learning a language "practice makes perfect?" he said. Also present on the occasion were Hj. Sitti Rohmi Djalilah as the rector, vice rector, and dean of Hamznawadi University. The presence of the Rector, in addition to giving a speech and encouragement, also officially opened the General English 2022 Program organized by the Hamzanwadi University Language Center.
General English (GE) is a special program intended for new students or prospective new students before they start their studies. In relation to the campus slogan, "Globally Competitive and Santri Cultured", this GE is one of the campus's real efforts to create students who are competitive at the local, regional and global levels. ?With this GE program, new students are expected to be able to communicate in English even though they are not from an English study program. I think language skills are a must and are very much needed by adults, not only for the needs of international level competitions when they are students, but also after they graduate and enter the world of work? said Astrid as the assessor team for this program.
This year's GE is different from the previous year where this year the activities were carried out offline considering the decreasing number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia. This activity will be held for 1 full month, starting from August 1 to August 31, 2022. After the opening ceremony, participants will study in classes which are held every Monday-Friday and Saturday is crazy day. Crazy day is a familiarization of all classes to get to know each other and is carried out outside the classroom, for example at the GOR.
This year's participants were 1400 participants and were divided into 57 groups which will be handled by 26 tutors. However, the number of participants will continue to increase considering that new student admissions are still open until the end of August. Later, we will divide these participants into two lesson sessions, the first session from 8:00 to 9:30 and the second session from 10:00 to 11:30.
At the end of the interview, Astrid said, "Hopefully this event will run successfully and become a reinforcement for the creation of bilingualism in the campus environment.
