Universitas Hamzanwadi Strengthens Commitment to Inclusivity through Strategic Partnerships and BISINDO Class Launch

East Lombok, June 19, 2025 — To strengthen its inclusive and sustainable educational services, the Center for Disability Services (CDS) at Universitas Hamzanwadi, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education (FIP), held a partnership agreement signed with several education stakeholders. The event was combined with the official opening of an Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO) Class and the launch of a Community Service Program (PkM) in the East Lombok Regency.

The partnership agreement signing is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universitas Hamzanwadi, the East Lombok Regency Education and Culture Office, and the East Lombok Ministry of Religious Affairs. The parties signing the new partnership agreement included SLB YCHI East Lombok (a special needs school), SLB Asifa Selong (a special needs school), and the East Lombok chapter of GERKATIN (The Indonesian Movement for the Welfare of the Deaf). The agreements were officially signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Muhammad Sururuddin, M.Pd., on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector I of Universitas Hamzanwadi, who, in his opening remarks, conveyed the important role of volunteers in supporting students with disabilities on campus and assisting schools in providing inclusive educational services. He also emphasized that the Special Education Study Program is expected to be at the forefront of creating a disability-friendly campus and making a tangible impact on the community.

BISINDO Class: Enhancing the Inclusive Competencies of Education Personnel The BISINDO Class was established as an effort to enhance the competencies of human resources in providing inclusive education services, both within the campus community and for the public. The class will run for four months, instructed by mentors from sign language interpreters and members of the Deaf community from GERKATIN East Lombok.

A total of 61 participants have enrolled in the class, comprising special needs ofschoolteachers, CDS student volunteers, postgraduate students, and academic support staff. Through this training, participants are expected to acquire basic sign language skills as a means of effective and empathetic communication with the Deaf community.

Community Service Program: Reaching 12 Schools in East Lombok The Community Service Program is being implemented in 12 target schools across the Selong and Pringgasela sub-districts, involving 36 disability volunteers. The program will run for three months, with 12 meetings held at each school. The main objective is to assist these schools in implementing inclusive learning practices that support students with special needs.

This initiative marks a concrete step by Universitas Hamzanwadi, as an inclusive campus, to not only address the needs of students with disabilities internally but also to actively contribute to strengthening inclusive education services within the community.
