The Lecturers of Universitas Hamzanwadi Revive Forgotten Klenang Music in East Lombok Through Digital Innovation

East Lombok – Efforts to preserve the traditional music of Klenang Nunggal continue as the younger generation's interest in local arts and culture declines. Responding to this challenge, several lecturers of Universitas Hamzanwadi Pancor initiated an innovative digital-based program through Community Service activities, including training in the E-Klenang application. This program is implemented through the Community Partnership Empowerment (PBM/PKM) scheme, supported by a community service grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The activity involves partners from the "Adiluhung Djati Sware" arts community as part of the strategy to revitalize the traditional Klenang Nunggal musical instrument in East Lombok.

The head of the program, L. M. Samsu, SE., M.Kom., who is also a lecturer and cultural observer, explained that digitalization is a strategic step to reintroduce Klenang to the younger generation. Together with a team of lecturers and students from the Information Systems Study Program, he strives to keep Sasak musical heritage relevant amidst rapid technological developments. "The main goal of this program is to introduce, develop, and utilize traditional music so that it remains alive and adapts to the demands of the modern era," he said. He believes that the digital culture that is implanted in Generation Z's lives can be an opportunity, not a threat, for the preservation of traditional arts. Through digital applications and media, Klenang Nunggal can be more easily accessed, presented in an engaging manner, and opens up space for collaboration with modern music without losing its traditional values.

This digital-based approach is expected not only to increase interest from the younger generation, but also strengthen local cultural identity and ensure the sustainability of Klenang as part of Lombok's cultural heritage. With a more modern packaging while remaining rooted in traditional values, Klenang music is believed to be able to regain its place in society
