Universitas Hamzanwadi Graduates 2,287, Rector Highlights Transformation and Competitiveness
East Lombok — Universitas Hamzanwadi held its 10th Commencement Ceremony. The formal graduation procession, which took place starting in the morning on Saturday, November 29, 2025, was attended by thousands of parents and invited guests. A total of 2,287 graduates from various faculties were officially released to enter the professional world.
The Rector of Universitas Hamzanwadi, Dr. Hj. Siti Rohmi Djalilah, noted that this year's commencement coincided with National Teacher's Day. She explained that the university has a long history, originating as a STKIP (Teacher Training and Education College) that played a significant role in producing educators in NTB (West Nusa Tenggara) for decades.
“We have just commemorated Teacher’s Day, and this campus was founded on the tradition of producing educational personnel,” said the woman affectionately known as Ummi Rohmi.
She stated that Hamzanwadi alumni are spread across many regions and have long served in the world of education. The Rector views this as an important reminder for the entire academic community to maintain the quality of graduates amidst the increasing demand for professional manpower.
“Many teachers working in NTB and outside the region are graduates of this campus. That is a great responsibility for all of us,” she stated.
Furthermore, Rohmi detailed several of the university's achievements in recent years. She cited the opening of the Faculty of Medicine and the Special Education Study Program for students with disabilities as strategic steps rarely taken by higher education institutions in Indonesia, particularly in the Bali-Nusra region.
“Study programs like Special Education are very few in number, and Hamzanwadi is one of those that provides it,” she added.
According to her, these achievements must not stop at mere institutional pride. She stressed that all progress must be followed by an improvement in the quality of academic and non-academic services so that the campus remains relevant to community needs.
“All these achievements must motivate us to work more seriously and with higher quality,” she asserted.
Rohmi also highlighted the rapidly changing labor market dynamics due to technological developments. She announced that Hamzanwadi is currently restructuring its internal organization to strengthen its research and innovation orientation.
“We are beginning to move from a teaching university towards a research university,” she stated.
This transformation is reinforced by the establishment of three Centers of Excellence focusing on digital literacy, foreign languages, and entrepreneurship. The Rector believes these three aspects are the essential competencies graduates must possess to compete globally.
“Students must be digitally literate, proficient in foreign languages, and possess an entrepreneurial spirit,” she explained.
She noted that adaptability is the main factor determining graduate success in the workforce. According to her, many jobs today no longer depend on the strict alignment between major and profession but on the graduate's agility in recognizing opportunities.
“Many graduates work outside their major, but they succeed because they are adaptive,” she said.
To support graduate readiness, the university is also strengthening the entrepreneurship ecosystem through courses and a business incubator. This program is rolled out to encourage students to create business opportunities while still studying.
“We want students not only to look for jobs but to be capable of creating jobs,” she clarified.
Additionally, Universitas Hamzanwadi has established a Halal Center to assist local SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in obtaining halal certification. The Rector views this effort as essential for regional products to gain access to the international market.
“Halal certification is a requirement for global recognition, and we want to make it easier for SMEs,” she concluded.
